Butler Not Awarded One of 12 Medical Marijuana Permits …

Butler will not be getting a medical marijuana grower and dispensary operation in the near future.

At a press conference Tuesday afternoon, the Pennsylvania Department of Health announced the recipients of 12 grower/processor permits statewide.

Local company Cresco Yeltrah applied for one of the permits in the Southwest Region which includes Butler County. The two permits available in the Southwest Region were awarded to AGRiMED Industries of PA in Greene County and PurePenn in Allegheny County. Cresco Yeltrah was awarded a permit for the Northwest Region in the Brookville area of Jefferson County.

Cresco Yeltrah already started work on a site in Butler’s Pullman Center where their facility would have been located. They could apply for the Butler site to be considered for the next round of permits issued.

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf signed a medical marijuana bill into law in April 2016. Patients can apply for a state-issued medical marijuana card if a doctor certifies they have one of 17 qualified medical conditions including epilepsy, cancer and seizure disorders.
