The City of Texarkana, Arkansas is preparing for the possibility of medical marijuana sales.

Arkansas voters elected to legalize medical marijuana in November 2016.

The city is now working to establish zoning and permitting rules for medical marijuana businesses.

The state’s new medical marijuana commission dictates that a cultivation center must be at least 3,000 feet, and a dispensary at least 1,500 feet, from any school, church or daycare.

“We’re pretty limited. The state has laid out a very defined area of what can and can’t be done,” said Mary Beck, Interim City Planner.

The Planning Commission expect to finalize their recommendations at a workshop in July, and a proposal could go before the board in August.
